UVO Christmas Message

Usk Valley Ospreys wish all members a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

As you will know we have had a very busy 12 months leading up to and following our launch meeting in Talybont-on-Usk in March 2024.  Thankfully, our ospreys did return to their nest after that meeting even though there was no breeding. A further year of establishment and bonding which is quite normal. We hope you enjoyed the camera footage last season.

Extended coverage is being planned for 2025 with installation of cameras, and the required power and signal provisions, rolled out prior to the birds’ expected return from late-March.

We will kick the New Year off with a Members Evening at Henderson Hall, Talybont from 7-9pm on 23rd January (as notified by the ‘Save the Date’ message sent out last week). Dr Tim Mackrill of Roy Dennis Foundation, national osprey expert and leading author, has agreed to come to speak again. His talk this time will be on ‘Osprey Migration’. The evening is free to attend, but in consideration of the high costs in protecting these birds and providing the infrastructure to bring them into your home, we respectfully ask that a donation of £5 - £10 per person be collected. The evening should again be highly enlightening.

Usk Valley Ospreys will also be enrolling Osprey Watchers for 2025, either as new recruits or those that wish to assist us again to log nestcam and/or towpath viewpoint observations.

Housekeeping – as demand for attendance is expected to be high, priority for seat allocation will be given to UVO Members. PLEASE reserve your seat with a short email to ‘info@uskvalleyospreys.org’ by 8th January. Friends still have time to enrol as a Member of UVO through the website      www.uskvalleyospreys.org   by 31/12/2024.
